My name is Andrew Burleigh and I am currently a freshman at the Columbus College of Art & Design. I grew up in the town of Mansfield, Ohio, which is only an hour away from here. I attended Lexington High School while I was there. In high school I was one of the best art students in the school. I exhausted the diverse art program that was offered through the school. My senior year I received the departmental award for art. From there I came to CCAD. I had always known that I was going to attend CCAD after high school. Both my father and my mother are CCAD graduates and have taught here. My father currently is a professor here. He teaches second and third year advertising design. That is another reason that I am here; because he is full-time faculty, I receive free tuition. Even if my dad didn’t teach here, I would have still found a way to get here. Art is my passion; there is nothing else I would rather do. There are many other directions that I could have gone but I am doing what I really want to do here at CCAD. Art runs in my blood. I don’t think that I would be happy in anything else. I don’t know that I have a specific philosophy about my art or art in general. I have just always had a knack for making things look good on paper, I enjoy making things that are visually pleasing not only to myself but to others. I guess you could say it is that way that I communicate best. I am not the best with words, but give me a brush or a pencil and I’ll “talk.” What I talk about depends on the piece that I am working on. Most of my work now is homework assignments so I do my best to meet the requirements of that project. There is no underlying theme or message that I try to put in all my art. It is just me doing what I like to do. |
